We continued our work with Greatest Common Factors today. Students worked on a Pizzazz sheet for independent practice in class.Homework tonight is to finish that sheet (C-17) and complete C-7 (about divisibility). We will be taking an end-of-unit test on Thursday of this week.

Students took a quiz this morning, so that I could assess how well they understand LCM and Prime Factorization. It went VERY well- they should come home tomorrow- so we are moving on the GCF (Greatest Common Factor) and how to use it. We just introduced the concept, with a really quick example. Homework tonight is to complete Study Guide 5.2 #1-8. Parents can use the top "Example" portion to help students work through the problems. Don't panic if it's difficu
We did some more practice finding LCM using PF and FT (your kids can translate- ask them!) before moving on to identifying Divisibility Rules. The class will be taking a quiz on Monday about both topics. This week's podcast had to be done by me (time) and includes an experimental "Vader-like" voice
We are off for the Jewish Holiday today, but I thought I'd announce today's Fim PoD: Kaitlyn!!! Congrats on scoring 2 table points for your team!
We worked some more on Prime Factorization. Here's a link to a catchy song that might help your child make sense of it:
http://www.watchknowlearn.org/Video.aspx?VideoID=40783&CategoryID=2032 We then began using Prime Factorization to determine LCM (Least Common Multiple). Homework for tonight is 5.4 Practice A #18-24 Today we worked on finding the LCM of 3 numbers, before moving on to more practice with Prime Factorization using Factor Trees. Tonight's homework is to complete a sheet called "Finding Primes".
Students spent the majority of today's class working independently on a "Problem of the Week" using the strategy of "Guess and Check". I am using this to assess how well the class is understanding the strategy of the week. Tonight's homework is a review of LCM: 5.4 Practice A, #1-16 and 35-28 only.
Fridays always feel a bit disjointed, but we really did get a lot done today! First, we examined explanations from a previous Problem of the Week to get a sense of what a strong explanation looks like. Then, student groups tried writing their own for this week's example. Next, we reviewed LCM from yesterday, and it seemed like a great time for me to introduce Prime Factorization through Factor Trees, so we did that, too! We will continue with both (Prime Factorization and LCM) at the beginning of next week. This week's PodCast will be uploaded by the afternoon, as this will be the first one recorded by the kids! Stay tuned...
We had a very busy day today! We began by reviewing and discussing homework assignments, before moving on to some more practice with squares and square roots. At this point, I am satisfied that students understand the concepts, and are ready to move on. Our lesson for the day was about Least (or Lowest) Common Multiples. Check notebooks and discuss what we did with your child. Homework tonight is to complete the TOP ONLY of Pizzazz worksheet C-18. Students will have some time tomorr
