We formed new table groups today, as we are about to begin our next unit. Table teams worked on names, and we then went over yesterday's unit assessment, which was returned. Students then worked on our Unit 2 Landing (Marching Band Patterns), which they will finish tomorrow. Tonight's homework is "Unit Launch: Caramels". Parents, please DO NOT assist students with this. This is one of those times when I want them to try to make mathematical sense of something that they have not necessarily been taught, as best they can.

Sorry to be so late about it, but I promised you (students) the link to the "Expressions Game" you used as a review on Friday.
Here's the site: http://www.math-play.com/Algebraic-Expressions-Millionaire/algebraic-expressions-millionaire.html You will need to copy and paste the address, I think. Anyway, we are planning to take our unit test tomorrow, should the weather cooperate! Enjoy the rest of your weekend. We did a quick review of last night's homework, before students spent 15 minutes working on their Problem of the Week. We then began our lesson, on Metric Conversions. We will wrap that up tomorrow, do a quick review, and we should be ready to take our Unit Test on Monday morning! Tonight's homework is to complete the week's PoW, "Handshakes".
We began this week's Problem of the Week, "Handshakes", with 15 minutes of in-class work time. PoWs will be due on Friday. Then, students practiced before moving on to the final "filming" stage of our instructional videos. Stay tuned as the project develops further! Tonight's homework involves 2 patterns, which students copied down in class: 0,3,6,9,12,15 and 1,2,4,8,16,32. Students are to list ordered pairs from corresponding terms, and then graph and label the ordered pair points.
I'm looking forward to seeing parents tonight for conferences! Today, we had to change our original plans for videotaping our lessons due to some scheduling changes. We will plan to record on Tuesday of next week. Groups can use the time til then to re-work their scripts. Here's the link for GoogleDocs: https://www.hcpss.me
Log in to the "private" section with your school account information. Good luck! We did a quick check of last night's homework, before students moved on to completing a couple of assessment activities (1 on rules and patterns, and another on expressions/equations). Tonight's homework is 1-2 Practice "Using Patterns).
Today we worked on graphing, first by creating patterns, then matching terms to identify coordinate pairs, and finally plotting points. Students also worked on their podcast scripts which we hope to record on Thursday this week. Tonight's homework is to complete "Graphing Patterns" p.1.
After a quick examination of last night's homework assignment, students moved on to working in their groups on scripts for a video teaching about arithmetic and geometric sequences, and how to solve for their patterns. Group scripts were underway when we ran out of time. Tomorrow, we will work on those scripts some more. Tonight's homework is a review paper assignment called "Write and Identify an Expression.
We worked a bit more with Geometric Sequences today. Some of us are still having trouble finding the "Rule" for a given sequence. Tonight's homework is the "front part" (it's the side with a bulleted a-b-c section) of a sheet called "Geometric Times". If you feel comfortable with that, and want to go on to the other side, go ahead - it'll give you more time to put your next part together.
We continued examining patterns and rules today by working through a different kind of sequence: a geometric sequence. We discovered just how powerful an "exponential growth" can be! Tonight's homework is a review paper 1-2 "Using Patterns".
